Imagine finding reels of long lost footage from the turn of the last century. Not just any old footage but long forgotten-about film showing the first hand experiences of the gold rush, an emerging pre Hollywood film industry, and every day life in the early 1900’s. This is exactly what happened in Dawson City in Canada. Dawson City: Frozen in Time is a mesmerizing compilation of footage that was accidentally found during an excavation and somehow had survived the years. There is silent narration and a soundtrack that I am obsessed with. I saw it on Criterion channel but if it’s not there (they turn over their content regularly) – hunt it down.
